Sean Costello

Attorney Placeholder ImageSean Costello is a seasoned civil litigator with wide-ranging experience representing companies and individuals on both sides of the “v.”  Sean graduated magna cum laude from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served on the Editorial Board of the Law Review.  After law school, Sean clerked for a prominent federal judge, where he gained invaluable insight into the way judges and juries reach their decisions.  Sean then worked as an attorney for 10 years as a litigator at a multinational corporate law firm where he litigated a variety of complex issues in courts throughout the United States, but focused his practice on consumer class action (including Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA); and Consumer Sales Practices Act (CSPA) claims), products liability, and business litigation.

In 2008, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company recruited Sean to manage its class action litigation throughout the United States, including those brought under consumer protection statutes.  Sean switched gears and started his own solo law practice in 2015 and started another business the same year.  Though he is a litigator at heart, he has extensive experience helping aspiring business owners to realize their dreams, guiding them through the formation and operation of their businesses.  He has counseled non-profit and for-profit entities, drafted documents to create and govern them, counseled them on risk mitigation and dispute avoidance, and prepared contracts on a variety of business matters.  He also has pursued or defended litigation on their behalf, including taking cases to trial.  As a former small business owner himself, Sean has a unique understanding of the needs and pressures faced by business owners.

As a sole practitioner, Sean championed the individual consumer, representing consumers in disputes with contractors, builders, banks, insurance companies, and other large businesses.  Throughout his career, Sean has taken and defended scores of depositions, including corporate executives, medical professionals, scientists, and expert witnesses; appeared, tried cases in courts and administrative tribunals throughout the United States; and briefed or argued appeals in several state and federal courts.  Sean is also a prolific author and has written dozens of published articles on litigation.  In addition, Sean is often invited to speak on litigation issues and has given many presentations and speeches to other lawyers, business professionals, and law makers.

In his spare time, Sean trains for and participates in marathons and triathlons, including Ironman competitions.   Sean also enjoys giving back to the community, has served and serves as an officer and board member on several charitable and non-profit organizations, and frequently volunteers his time for causes he cares passionately about.
