Kohl & Cook is seeking a driven and ambitious Associate Civil Litigation Attorney to join our growing law firm. This full-time, in-person role is ideal for attorneys who have 0–3 years of litigation experience with a passion and desire to learn all aspects of client management and trial practice. Associates at Kohl & Cook assist in all phases of litigation from the initial intake to trial and are quickly given independent responsibility and authority in cases. Candidates taking the February or July bar exam are welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist partners with state and federal litigation matters from pre-lawsuit through resolution.
  • Serve as lead trial counsel under the supervision of attorneys in all facets of civil litigation, including but not limited to attending hearings, conducting depositions, and litigating bench and jury trials in Common Pleas and/or Federal Court.
  • Draft, edit, and collaborate with supervising attorneys on trial briefs, motions, and discovery in conjunction with litigation strategy and client expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, including managing expectations related to attorney fees, costs, litigation risks, possible outcomes, and litigation strategy.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • 0–3 years of litigation experience.
  • Ohio Bar license in good standing.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic performance with high marks in legal writing and trial-related classes.
  • Achievements and/or leadership positions in mock trial or moot court.
  • Long record of participation in community or service-related activities.
  • Leadership positions in undergraduate and/or law school groups.
  • Experience or education in civil litigation and/or consumer protection preferred.
